Materials and other learning sources

 

English Program ( EP )and Inclusive Science Mathematics English Program(ISMEP) offers varied materials and learning sources that student may enjoy or use while studying and doing their assignments.

When it comes to books, students are given individual books and workbooks which they can use in everyday learning, The teacher will also provide handouts on his/her lesson to his students especially when it comes to their  vocabulary. Teacher also get some of their ideas  from private websites to help them in their lesson.

 

Measurement and Evaluation System ​
   English Program ( EP )and Inclusive Science Mathematics English Program(ISMEP)'s grades/ marks composed of the written works , performance task, unit test and quarterly examination. The behavior of each students was also been observed by the teachers and they are going to rate the student's behavior in the class. The possible grade the students will get is 4.0 which is the highest and 1.0 will be the lowest grade.

  

   Most teachers give the students a task that will help the students  increase their critical thinking and apply their creative ways that will be applied not only inside the school but also can be applied in their daily living. In this way the students will  acknowledge the task that will be given to them.

General Curriculum

The curriculum prescribed goals and learning standards. It also provided a framework
and orientation for enhancing quality of life of learners, who would attain virtue, wisdom, as
well as capacity to maintain Thailand’s competitive position in the world community
(Ministry of Education, 2001). At the same time, the curriculum was duly adjusted for
harmonization with the objectives of the National Education Act 1999 and amendments
made in 2002 (Second National Education Act). These laws have placed emphasis on
decentralization of educational authority to local communities and schools, which are to play
significant roles and actively participate in preparing curriculum suitable to actual situations
and serving their real needs (Office of the Prime Minister, 1999).

Teaching Plan

The lesson intended for the English Program ( EP )and Inclusive Science Mathematics English Program(ISMEP) is that they have their own format for the lesson planning because they are only a program of the school. The lesson plan is composed of Strands followed by the  Learning Outcomes with Key concept next will be the Objectives and followed by the Lesson Proper and Evaluation. At the end of their lesson plan,  they will also indicate or write Comments and Suggestions during their discussions.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods means how the teacher or what are the ways of the teacher to handle the class  that includes on how to make the classroom a place to learn new and useful things.

   The teacher in Boonwattana School  especially in the ISMEP and EP programs  make sure that they implemented the English Speaking whereas teachers use English as the means of instruction and they encourage to speak in English. In this way the teachers prepared some of the activities to help them in use the language through a role plays , lecture, group activity and worksheets that are written in English. The classroom environment may be called as a teacher -centered but it is helpful to the students especially most of them find English language difficult and serve as their guide in order for them to be aware and know  first before doing it.The Boonwattana School under ISMEP teaching method  is that the teacher will guide the students first and it will be a sort of teacher-centered in the first meeting because the students will first given a handouts provided by the teacher and after that the teacher will discuss what is on the handouts. After discussing the students will be given a task to answer a worksheets which will measure the critical and the creative way of thinking of the students which becomes a student-centered at the last part of the discussions.

Learning Materials and Innovation

​

     Each classrooms has a very good environment for it has a complete learning materials for example, they have their own computers, projectors and sound system that will help the teacher to get the attention of the students. The teacher are going to prepare a PowerPoint presentation in order to introduce their lessons. Students are allowed to use their own phones if only needed or with the supervision  of the teacher.

​

     Teacher Nut, my cooperating teacher has a creative way of introducing her lesson. She first give her students a handouts composed of some complex words with meanings which helps the students to be aware of and to know the pronunciation of the word. She also want to give her student a worksheet right after her discussion. She let the students answered the worksheet using English ALPHABET in order to  practice  their writing skills and encourage to speak in English every time they are having a discussion. Hence, teacher should have creative strategy to make the four sides of the classroom that extends the student's life into new dimensions.

Sources of Learning and Technology

​

        The main sources of learning to the students is through their textbooks, worksheets and workbooks. The teacher provides the students a good quality of books composed of Units they should tackle or be discussed. Each Units has a set of Links like; Vocabulary Link, Grammar Link, Speaking Link and Writing Link. Teachers also given a CD composed of all the information to their lesson for the whole semester.

        The school provides latest information technology and Multimedia in keeping the curriculum updated.

Authentic Assessment

​

     The teacher provides activities that are not only involves inside the classroom but also outside the classroom which helps the student to apply their creative ways in handling the activity. The authentic assessment example is the simulation of a job interview given by the teacher during my observation an it really helps the student to gain some experience which they can apply in the real -life situation. The school has a school camp which really help the students to be adventurous and there is more to look to other than focusing on technology so that activity is really helpful to the students to be active enough not only in the four walls of the classroom but also outside the four walls.

      Authentic assessment does not mean only through activities but it can also be through a written test which the teacher will be giving a certain situation and the students would write their own opinion about it. In English Subject , authentic assessment is very useful when it comes to communication and as what I have observed the teacher really give the communication skills to the students.

​

       Teachers are taught that having an authentic assessment is important to implement in order for the student to be open minded in engaging the real life situation and for them to be a responsible individual in the future.
