My Observation

 

  I was assigned to be part of Inclusive Science Mathematics English Program with my Cooperating Teacher Miss Kruu Noot  who is handling Mathayom 3 (Grade 9) Basic English and since I am a part of ISMEP I  was also given the task by the head of ISMEP to handle Mathayom 4(Grade  10) Reading Comprehension. I was also given the chance to observe a low class in which they use their own language as the means of instruction which is different from the student from the EP and ISMEP. 



Planning for Teaching

   The Boonwattana School under ISMEP teaching method  is that the teacher will guide the students first and it will be a sort of teacher-centered in the first meeting because the students will first given a handouts provided by the teacher and after that the teacher will discuss what is on the handouts. After discussing the students will be given a task to answer a worksheets which will measure the critical and the creative way of thinking of the students which becomes a student-centered at the last part of the discussions.

 

Preparing Lessons and Materials

  Based on my cooperating mentor Teacher Nut, the way on how she will prepare her lesson is first the students will be given a beforehand activity and on the next meeting my mentor and the students will answer it together provided with the explanation and since English language is very hard for the students , the teacher will provide a PowerPoint Presentation in order for the students not to be bored and to gain some attention and shows interest, that will serve as her materials. English subject for Thai students is a complex subject for them which makes them less confident in order to solve that problem ,my mentor will always prepare activities that will enhance and encourage the students to love English.In preparing the materials, Teacher Nut always make sure that all her materials will have the involvement of the students.

 

Teaching in Class

 Since my cooperating mentor is Thai Teacher they will pay more respect compare to the foreign teachers and luckily I am under a Thai Teacher. When it comes to Thai Teacher teaching Thai students they don't find it difficult because they can speak in the same language and if the instruction in English is hard the teacher will easily translate it. My cooperating mentor is one of the strict teacher in the school that is also be an advantage to her because when she is teaching the students will listen very well and they avoid talking.

    Teacher Nut mostly start the class with a warm up and introduce her discussion and the objectives and learning outcomes of the lesson or  for the topic and everything follows.

Measurement and Evaluation

     In Boonwattana School, students under EP and ISMEP will be measured through written test and worksheets made by the teacher written in English Language and they should answered it using English Alphabet. Teachers will prepare worksheets to the students every topic and lessons and at they have also called a Unit test in which at the end of each unit they will have a written or performance test about what they have learned in the specific unit and they are evaluated through a rubrics. Every semester they have the 3 major exams; Prelim, Midterm and Finals and it is a written test made by the teachers.

     The school also has  a ONet exam for Mathayom 3 and the students are given 1 week to study including a tutorial in every subject.

Overall Impression to the Teacher's Performance

 As a trainee or as future teacher, what I have observed is that the teacher really has different ways or strategy or techniques in teaching on how to get the attention of the students. In the case with my Cooperating mentor Teacher Nut, what I noticed is that sometimes having a strong personality or attitude inside the classroom environment will be helpful or will bring great advantage because in order for the students to know the limitation between a teacher and students relationship. My cooperating mentor sometimes I observed that she has ways which for me is not helpful for the students to learn new things just for example , Teacher Nut is the one who will provide the handouts for the students and will explain it all by herself without classroom interaction or any oral recitation for the students. The classroom environment is more on teacher centered instead of it should be a students centered. The only lacking based on what I have observed is that the interaction between the teacher and the students and the teacher shoukd provide questions during her discussion to test or measure the students' creativity and critical ways of thinking , but overall I also so much new techniques and strategy to my Cooperating mentor.
