Curriculum related to  my Major

In Thailand, they called their curriculum guide as “Learning Area of Foreign Languages”, which are compose of three strands. Each strand has specific performance standard. For instance, in strand one entitled as “language for communication”, which addresses the understanding and capacity of the students to interpret what has been heard and read from various types of media, and their ability to express opinions with proper reasoning and endowment of the students in language communication skills for exchange of data and information for efficient expression of feelings and opinions.

Second strand is “language and culture”, which entails the students to appreciate the relationship between language and culture of native speakers and capacity to use of appropriate language for occasions and places and to appreciate the similarities and differences between language and culture and Thai speakers, and their capacity to use accurate and appropriate language.

Third strand is “language and relationship with other learning areas”, the standard is to address the usage of foreign languages and to link knowledge with other learning areas, as foundation for further development and to seek knowledge and widen one’s world view.

Fourth strand is “language and relationship with community and the world”, it is the ability to use foreign languages in various situations in school, community and society. Also, usage of foreign languages as basic tools for further education, livelihood and exchange of learning with the world community.

Procedures in Teaching

Before making my lesson plan , Teacher Nut informed me to make own ways or strategy on how should I teach my students and said to prepare more activities for the students.

I started my class discussion with some of my rules and regulations in class that needed to be followed just for example the use of their cellphones is prohibited and will be confiscated by the teacher if they get caught using it (I asked for a consent to my cooperating mentor about my rules and she gave me the authority to do so). I prepared also a chant called " Mabu mabu hay" to catch their attention every time they get bored. In introducing my lesson to the students I prepared  a warm-up activity through asking questions or asking their personal experience related to the topic and after proceed with the proper class discussion with an interactive involvement of my students through asking questions and after that I gave them an activity either it is a written test or performance test like role playing. They are evaluated through a rubrics which is given by the teacher. After the discussion the teacher will going to write some comments and reflection during the discussion.

Time management and organizing activities

One of my rules in class is that student should be particular with the time since we only have one hour. How I managed the time is that every activity has a specific time that need to be finished and when the students have to answer some written test they also given an ample time to answer . In organizing my activities I always make sure that the students will not be moving around when they have group activity, the possible members will  be their columns or their seatmate ,I avoid counting for it may exert extra time for the students for they will be moving around from one place to another.

Problem solving and Classroom Management

Since English Subject is all about communication , I encourage my students to speak in English and to communicate with me in English, they should answer my question in English and they are avoid to speak in Thai while in my class  and they always do the more talking than me in order to practice their English skill.I motivate them to share their opinions or ideas in class and I will help them in explaining it to the class. When I noticed that they find it difficult to understand I put it in a situational matter and same as if they want to explain something to me they also put it in a situational matter in that way we can understand each other and have a proper communication. When I asked questions I call a student and if that student cannot answer I asked her/his classmates to help him/her or someone can volunteer to answer. I always put some energy to my voice or put some exaggeration in order for me to get their attention . I also implemented or set some rules and regulation to the class and they don't find it hard to follow since they are one of the best class in ISMEP. The classroom environment during my teaching practice I would define it as lively and I can see on their eyes and through the actions of my student their interest in knowing English.

Overall Impression in Teaching

Teaching students with different language and ways of learning may be difficult at first and you should exert more effort to show that you are willing to teach them. I am so lucky that I got the chance to handle the Mathayom3/2 for I can see their excitement and willingness to learn every time I entered the classroom. If you are teaching students that are not so good with the English Language you need to be more specific with the words and always make your words to simple to its simplest word in order for them to understand what you are trying to teach them or inform them. While having my discussion I always encourage my student to speak and express their opinions .Preparing lessons and thinking for an effective activity is really difficult for I am not familiar with their teaching and learning process but with the help and guidance of my cooperating mentor I find it really enjoyable.
